Controller Details
Controller: Mantle. Contact: support@mantle.md.
Summary
Mantle is a local-first markdown workspace. The core app works on files on the user's machine.
Mantle may send limited app telemetry by default to help detect crashes, runtime failures, and trust-sensitive issues. Users can turn this off in Settings.
The Mantle marketing site may also use limited PostHog analytics to understand download interest and website performance.
Mantle does not use app telemetry to collect note bodies, note excerpts, raw markdown, workspace paths, or filenames.
App Telemetry And Diagnostics
When app telemetry is enabled, Mantle may collect:
- anonymous install identifier
- app version
- platform and macOS version
- app-open and active-session signals
- workspace-open success or failure
- save-failure events
- external-conflict surfaced events
- note-history / recovery usage events
- crash and runtime error fingerprints
- sanitized exception details and stack traces for crashes and runtime errors
Mantle currently uses PostHog Cloud EU to receive app telemetry.
Website Analytics And Cookies
The Mantle website may use PostHog to collect limited analytics about website use and download intent.
That processing may include:
- an anonymous website analytics identifier stored in first-party cookies or similar browser storage
- download click events such as
website_download_clicked - limited website event metadata such as the click source or referring page context
The current website analytics setup does not intentionally enable session replay, surveys, autocapture, or automatic pageview capture.
Support And Contact Data
If a user contacts Mantle for support, bug reports, or legal/privacy questions, Mantle may process:
- their name or email address
- the contents of their message
- any diagnostics, screenshots, logs, or other information they choose to send
What Mantle Does Not Collect From The App
Mantle does not remotely collect:
- note bodies
- note excerpts
- raw markdown
- workspace paths
- filenames
- file contents from the workspace
Mantle also does not intentionally add workspace paths, filenames, note content, or raw markdown as custom telemetry properties. If crash data includes path-like substrings in exception details, Mantle redacts those before sending them to PostHog.
How Mantle Uses Personal Data
Mantle may use personal data:
- to provide, secure, maintain, and improve the app, website, downloads, and support channels
- to detect crashes, product failures, and trust-sensitive problems
- to understand website download interest and basic marketing-site usage
- to respond to support requests, bug reports, and legal or privacy enquiries
- to comply with legal obligations and enforce Mantle's terms
Mantle relies primarily on legitimate interests for this processing, and on legal obligations where applicable.
Recipients And Processors
Mantle may share limited personal data with:
- PostHog Cloud EU as Mantle's analytics and telemetry processor
- email, hosting, and infrastructure providers that help operate Mantle's website, downloads, and support channels
- professional advisers, regulators, courts, or law enforcement where required
International Transfers
Mantle aims to use providers and configurations that keep telemetry and analytics data in the UK or EEA where practical.
Some processors or subprocessors may still access or transfer data outside the UK. Where that happens, Mantle will rely on lawful transfer mechanisms such as adequacy regulations or approved contractual safeguards.
Retention
Mantle keeps personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for product diagnostics, analytics review, support handling, legal compliance, and dispute resolution.
Retention periods may vary depending on the type of data, the live production configuration, and whether the data is needed for ongoing support, security, or legal reasons.
Your Rights
Depending on applicable law, users may have rights to ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, objection, data portability, or withdrawal of consent where consent is used.
Users can exercise those rights by contacting support@mantle.md.
Complaints
If a user is in the UK and believes Mantle has handled personal data unlawfully, they can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Telemetry Controls
App telemetry is enabled by default.
Users can opt out in Mantle's Settings under Privacy.
Website analytics controls, including cookie controls, depend on the live website configuration and browser settings.
